Matt
& Shannon Heaton play updated and traditional Irish
music. Their newest album "Lovers'
Well" is a collection of traditional Irish love
songs, stirring traditional and original tunes, and one
Thai traditional classic, "Lao Dueng Duen," to
honor the time Shannon has spent studying Thai music and
language.
John O'Regan (Irish music Magazine) called their music "tight,
sweet, and tasteful, lacking nothing on either technical
expertise or instrumental virtuosity." And Scott Alarik
(Boston Globe) wrote, "their playing is masterful and
inventive, their arrangements city-smart and spacious. Still,
they never forget that Irish music is, at its heart, a neighborly
form, meant for sharing, not showing off.
"These
two are magic. . .whether it be a driving reel or a gorgeous
song, these two can do it all. . .brilliant to the bone."

To welcome
in summer, Shannon did 108 sun salutations (well, almost
108...). Matt planted two serviceberry trees. And Shannon
adapted a Thai traditional classic
into a polka. We are trying to do our part to brighten
Boston, after weeks of chilly, rainy days.
On the teaching front, Matt Malikowski, Paddy League, Brian
O'Donovan and others have all participated in Matt's Celtic
Guitar Camp (not just for guitarists). Find out more
about this grassroots Boston-based summer camp, and about
the August Celtic College (Goderich, Ont.) on our tours
page.
Other
news: Sure, Facebook has kind of jumped the shark... but
it's still a good time. Can check out faces and humor from
some of our fans at the Matt

Like Webisodes? We've got three
cute videos up about the making of our new album "Lovers'
Well." In the July/August Dirty Linen, Kerry Dexter
praises “the storytelling power” of “Lovers’
Well.” She calls the album, “an intriguing and
thoughtful set that weaves both the ideas and the musicality
of the pieces into a tapestry of colors that is by turns
dark and light.
